1. What is Otium?

Established in 2015, Otium was founded with the mission to create an environment focused on inspiring and enabling individuals to live their best lives.  We are a boutique fitness studio which offers yoga, hot yoga, barre and TRX classes in a unique and nurturing environment, led by premier instructors who we regard as family.  The Latin word “Otium” has a variety of meanings - peace, tranquility, leisure.  In this spirit, the Otium brand stands for a peaceful and welcoming sanctuary for those seeking individual growth, as well as ways to support their local and global communities.  In contrast, we are not ego-based, exclusivist or interested in the status quo in our approach to fitness, fashion.  We work, intentionally, with companies that support the good and which share the passion of social responsibility and creating change.  Our goal is to continue to touch lives and inspire growth, organically.    The boutique at Otium houses 90 lines of carefully curated luxury activewear, lifestyle gear, jewelry and natural apothecary.

2. What do you love about your job?

Touching lives!  It is inspiring, empowering and therapeutic to share such beautiful gifts with such wonderful people.  When a client comes to us, puts a hand on our shoulder and says "This has changed my life", then we know we have done what we set out to do.  There are times when you can see all over a client's face that they are going through a difficult time and may need to just dish.  The beauty of the genuine compassion and energy inside this studio is far more rewarding than selling an infinite number of memberships.  Daily witnessing this beauty is what I love about my job!

3. What does the future hold for Otium?

Well, I have a very strong belief in organic growth and divine intervention.  We do not do a lot of advertising, but our people just find us!  Early on, we trademarked Otium in all areas of fitness, in case the opportunity for growth presented itself and that certainly didn't take very long.  In the first 6 months that we were open, we had 24 inquiries about franchise potential.  Our response was always the same : "We aren't there yet!"  After seeking counsel from a top business and franchise attorney in New York, we learned that our business was definitely franchise material.  It has been a very finite, tedious process but we are about a week away from selling our first franchise!  The prospect of touching more lives and supporting more good has made the process worth it!

4. Favorite restaurants in the area?

Oh that's tough!  The Brussels Sprouts at La Crema are probably one of my favorite things in the whole wide world.  The cast iron skillet Filet at Paradis in insane!  Oh now I am getting hungry!  I have to stop.

5. What's your idea of the perfect Saturday on 30A?

We recently moved from Point Washington to Seagrove and the absolute best part about the location is being able to walk over to Eastern Lake on a Saturday, with a paddleboard and my family.  I love the laid-back lifestyle and being able to enjoy nature with my children.  I love seeing them happy and content with simple things!
